Design output
Design methodology:
Haba and Beka Case Study
- Studying the best selling playstations.
- Examining the range of Haba ( a US based furniture company) playstations.
- Studying the dimensions and material choices
- Research on ergonomic and safety standards for kids.Learning the basics of space planning
- Conceptualizing the different units of the playstation in accordance to the adjacent units as well as keeping in mind the total volume estimated of the station and the total size of the classroom
- Using colors and shapes cohesively for the harmonious look of the station
- Planning the additions like slides and staircase after calculating what maximum distance will the kids occupy outside the station while playing
- Assigning the space to the engaging activities keeping in mind what area is it on and how many kids would occupy what corner at what timeDesigning a modular system
- Designing each element and unit while playing close attention to how will it be manufactured because that the ease of construction was directly related to joineries which was further related to the ergonomics
- Everything about the unit design conceptualization had the base foundation of platonic solids. Which concluded with the result that if the playstation from the exterior had to resemble the form of a cube, its interior building blocks which are the units, will have a square base.
- This result lead to a well planned space where the similar geometry of the units positioned well with each other and a cohesive look of the stationed differentiated with color lead to an interesting sight to have fun in for the kids.
Activity mapping and ergonomic regulations
- Mapping strategic positions in the space to keep the kids engaged. Brainstorming on the kinds of puzzles that enhance/motivate hand-eye & motor coordination.
